Hello all,
I recently enjoyed the hospitality of Tom Burgoyne and his wife Florence. At 92 Tom is the oldest surviving player that I am aware of and I found our conversation quite fascinating. His memories of Old Nuneaton were amazing and furthermore he was able to identify between 25 and 30 extra player images or errors.
Tom is next to brother Eddie in the middle of the back row and although Eddie is 7 years younger I currently have him as the second oldest surviving player. Also in this picture is Jim Startin, subject of my previous email and Harry Marston our oldest surviving Club Captain. Tom does not appear on any of the pre war photos as he played his earlier rugby in the Nuneaton Parish Church XV.
I have increased my own list of surviving veterans but the club does not possess quality information about older members. I hope to make that the subject of further research and will perhaps make it the topic for future mail and web site activity.
