Many Ed's past and present have interesting nicknames and equally interesting stories behind them. Some of the best are earned on Tour. In a recent e-mail exchange with Nick Downes, I reminded him of the post-tour selection published in the Trib featuring a Mr H Hippo in the line up and his subsequent phone call demanding to know why he hadn't been selected to play that week He reminded me that a Mr C Egg was also selected that week. Anyone care to name the player and how he came by the name? Does anyone recall "The Pond Life" Tour? What about the antics of Le Cochon Noir? Who was awarded Speed Cyclist of the Year in 1987?

I believe that Mr C Egg was that well known defector to the Old Laurentians a certain Mr Alan Willis. I am told that in a moment of drunken stupidity on tour, Alan told a certain person, now renowned for his cooked breakfasts, that his then girlfriend called him chucky-egg. He implored his confidant not to tell anyone else................whereupon said confidant rose to his feet and announced the news to the whole tour party! Alan was reduced to a state of near collapse and the rest of the tour was punctuated by the strains of 'Chick chick, chick, chick chicken, Lay a little egg for me' whenever Alan appeared.
